Saturday we made great progress on this trail, thanks to an Eagle Scout from Tierrasanta and his troop. Despite the heat, the effort took out lots and lots of iceplant, re-routed a key part of the trail, widened several segments, and installed some signs identifying native plants. There is still some trailwork to be done, but again, lots of progress was made.
While working, I heard a mockingbird calling a warning, and figured it to be a hawk causing him concern rather than a cat, given the tall trees and the canyon setting. Sure enough, I saw a Cooper's Hawk fly out of one of the eucalyptus, being chased by three hummingbirds and the mockingbird! Later I also heard a Nuttal's Woodpecker. What a nice little canyon this is, and now even better.
